What is independent living for seniors?
Independent living for seniors is a vibrant, maintenance-free lifestyle in a community setting, designed for active older adults who want to live autonomously. It includes services and amenities, such as dining, housekeeping, transportation, and a comprehensive calendar of social and wellness activities.
When should a move to independent living be considered?
The best time to move to independent living is often when you are still active and independent yourself and want to be proactive about your future.
It’s time to consider moving when:
- Home maintenance becomes a burden (yard work, cleaning, repairs).
- You desire a more social and engaging lifestyle with built-in activities, clubs, and neighbors.
- You want a lock-and-leave travel lifestyle without worrying about an empty house.
- You want to plan for the future and enjoy a safety net of services and security – including access to specialized care – before a crisis forces a rushed move.
Many people choose to move in their mid-70s to enjoy the full benefits and community life for longer.

Questions to Ask Assisted Living
Who typically lives in assisted living?
Generally, assisted living (AL) is designed for seniors who need regular, non-medical support with activities of daily living (ADLs) – such as bathing or dressing – but are otherwise independent.
In short, assisted living residents are looking for a balance: maintaining as much independence as possible while having staff available to provide personalized support for routine personal needs.
What type of care does assisted living provide?
How much does assisted living cost?
At The Village at Gainesville, we offer transparent pricing with a single monthly service fee. This approach covers a wide range of premium services and amenities, making it easier to plan and budget for your future without unexpected charges.
When is it time for assisted living?
The decision to move is personal, but it’s typically time to consider assisted living when daily activities become challenging, safety is a concern or managing health needs independently is difficult.
What are some examples of community amenities?
Assisted living residents at The Village have access to all community amenities, as well as a full monthly calendar of social and life-enrichment activities specifically designed for them. Select residences offer kitchenettes, and all assisted living communities feature recreational spaces and dining venues.
Are transportation services available at assisted living facilities?
We provide scheduled transportation for residents. Our associates organize numerous outings every month for shopping, special events, social outings and doctor appointments.
How large are the assisted living residences at The Village?
Assisted living residences are available as studio and one-bedroom private residences in a range of sizes from 355 to 529 square feet. Each residence features its own private bath, and all utilities and basic cable services are provided, except local telephone. To ensure immediate staff response, residents wear pendants that alert staff that help is needed at the push of a button.
Memory Support
What is memory care?
Memory care is a specialized form of long-term care designed specifically for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
Memory care provides a higher level of supervision and personalized support than assisted living, focusing entirely on the unique needs of residents experiencing cognitive decline.
How does memory support differ from other levels of care?
Our memory support neighborhoods, Laurel Square and Azalea Trace, have been thoughtfully and carefully designed to ensure that residents feel safe and secure. Assistance is provided under the direction of a licensed nurse, along with a specially trained staff dedicated to the well-being and comfort of residents.
Laurel Square’s unique neighborhood design affords for individualized attention and social interaction in a homelike setting to minimize agitation that often accompanies those affected by memory impairment.
Azalea Trace’s enclosed garden offers a safe space for outdoor activities and family visits, along with a walking path with points of interest along the way. Each encourages the highest level of independence while focusing on the individual strengths and preferences of our residents.
What is the average monthly cost for memory care?
As a rental community, memory support at The Village at Gainesville operates under a monthly service fee structure, similar to our assisted living pricing.
While the monthly cost for memory care is typically higher than standard assisted living, this difference reflects the value of the specialized care, secure environment, higher staff-to-resident ratio, and tailored cognitive programming provided 24 hours a day.
What kind of special training do associates have?
Our associates are trained in one of the country’s most respected dementia care programs – the Positive Approach® to Care, an approach developed by Teepa Snow, an Occupational Therapist and one of American’s leading experts on dementia. This program focuses on the abilities that remain versus what has been lost. Memory support at The Village places people before tasks and nurtures relationships that recognize the importance of privacy, choice, dignity and purpose.
When should someone with dementia go into a care home?
The decision for someone with dementia to move into a memory care community typically occurs when their safety at home can no longer be guaranteed or their complex needs exceed what can be sustainably managed by family caregivers.
Are transportation services available?
We provide scheduled transportation for residents; our associates organize numerous outings every month for shopping, special events, social outings and doctor appointments.
What are the residences like?
Ivy Lane offers studio and one-bedroom residences with private bathrooms; Azalea Trace features two neighborhoods of private rooms, each with a half bath. All utilities except telephone are provided.
What kinds of amenities are included?
Residents enjoy three chef-prepared meals every day, served family-style. We also provide housekeeping, daily bed-making, and personal laundry services. Residents have access to activity common spaces designed to promote social interaction. Additionally, we provide interactive and socially stimulating programming specifically designed for those with memory loss.
